History of Grove City

Since 2013, Grove City Summit has been proud to call Grove City its home. However, many people are unaware of the rich history and creation of Grove City and how it became one of the fastest growing suburbs of Central Ohio.

Here’s a little history lesson about Grove City, in five fascinating historical facts about the city we call home!

1. Grove City got its name from the grove of trees that remained standing after the initial clearing for the city’s creation.

2. Adam Gabriel Grant was a trailblazing resident of the Grove City area. He helped develop the interurban train system, bought the first bicycle and made Grove City’s first long distance call.

3. Notable sports alumni of Grove City include former professional NFL player Gary Burley who played in Super Bowl XVI, and professional tennis player Ann Grossman, who competed on the worldwide WTA tour for over a decade.

4. Grove City’s unofficial sister city is Heidenheim an der Brenz, Germany.

5. Today, Grove City’s population has reached 36,079 residents and is home to more than 1,455 businesses.
